Otto of Sapphire Mountain is a 6 year old German Shepherd Dog. His call name is "Shasta". He is a true bi-color GSD of medium size with huge drives. He has completed his CGC , BH , SchH 1 , SchH 2, and SchH 3 titles and has completed the AD endurance test. Shasta has been given a breed show rating of V (Excellent) and Korklasse 1 for LIFE. My plans are to continue training "Shasta" in tracking in the future working toward his TD and TDX titles. Shasta's hips and elbows have passed OFA testing with a hip rating of GOOD and elbows NORMAL. The X-rays were also submitted to Germany and received the a-stamp on hips and elbows. Shasta is now listed on SV Genetics. Shasta is available as a stud dog to qualifiying female GSDs. I plan to use him as a stud dog and personal protection dog, who is fully trained in obedience, tracking ,personal protection and Schutzhund. Toward this end I am a member of the Tornado Alley Schutzhund Club, the United Schutzhund Clubs of America and Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde. e.V. (SV) in Germany.

Shasta's temperament is solid. He is fearless with a degree of vigilance. In his personal protection training he is quick to alert, confident in his defense and at 16 months of age was described as having "full calm bites with an attitude of a 3-4 year old dog." Our first coach (Russ Osburn) had to continually remind the helper that "Shasta" was only 16 months old in his early training. "Shasta" was described by Russ as having "a clear head with jumps toward the helper as explosive." "Shasta's" territorial protection is excellent with a degree of calm vigilance as he is not an aggressive dog. He never alerts or barks unless there is a serious problem. When tracking the judge has evaluated Shasta as having "a deep nose with calmness and complete concentration" with an extremely high tracking and hunt drive. He has strong bones, dark pigmentation, high trainability. I am fortunate that "Shasta" has high drives as training would not be easy for this novice to Schutzhund. I believe he will easily allow me to reach my goals with him!
The lineage in "Shasta's" bloodlines is impeccable. His grandsire on his sire's side is Tom z Pohraniční stráže ( a police dog legend who is a son of Cordon An-Sat) and stood at stud at the famous Czech Border Patrol (z Pohraniční stráže ) kennel and his grandsire on his dam's side is Gero z Blatenskeho zamku CS (stud dog at the Jipo-Me kennel.) On this website you will find pages dedicated to these great stud dogs. With certified Czech Border Patrol dogs in his third, fourth and fifth generations "Shasta's" pedigree is full of some of the greatest working and producing dogs of the present and past, Cordon An-Sat, a great producer of many outstanding Police working dogs in Slovakia; the very influential DDR producing stud dog, IWO v.d. Buschecke, and the great Klara z Pohraniční stráže to name a few. "Shasta's" granddam, Hobby Venusina sopka along with her grandsire CIR z Vrtovske Doliny competed numerous times on the Czech Republic and European levels. Hobby possessed the old Czech working blood of the dog Dar z Przma, who in his time was the most successful producer of working dogs in Czechoslovakia.
Side note: At the WUSV 2008 Hobby was represented by 2 different dogs that competed for the Czech Republic.

The pups from the breeding of Rocky Venusina Sopka and Pen z Jirkova Dvora (call name Petra) have an exceptional working pedigree. The bloodlines have been well thought-out and matched up, particularly the breeding between "Petra's" parent's Gero and AJKA. The former head of genetics for the z Pohrancini straze breeding facility created a very diverse pedigree behind "Petra". You find dogs with very high intensity and aggression coming through Gero and Korina's lines. Balance was added to this equation along with beauty of conformation, by adding lines back to vom Kirschental, von Arminius and vom Wildsteiger Land kennels. Combine this by adding Rocky, who brings a number of dogs that are famous for producing police dogs such as : Tom z Ps, Cordon An-Sat, Majka z Blatenskeho zamku, Iwo v.d. Buschecke, Drago z Humnan.....results in a breeding combination that produces balanced police and service dogs.
Pups from Rocky and "Petra" are line bred 4-4 on Majka z Blatenskeho zamku. They carry a good level of dominance and aggression. They are very balanced, confident dogs that have strong working drives with great skills for protection and tracking. Sapphire Shepherds has placed offspring from this breeding into the Middle East for police work as well as competition dogs, search & rescue and family/personal protection dogs here in the United States.
